Region 10 RDC workers to be paid by next week

Approximately 50 workers attached to the Region 10 Regional Administration are likely to receive their salaries for February before the end of next week, after steps were taken to expedite payment following an armed robbery at the RDC office three weeks ago.

Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo said that he has contacted Minister of Local Government Kellawan Lall to have the matter expedited. “I am really disappointed that these employees have not been paid to date,” he said. He also said that his office had been inundated with calls from the workers living along the Berbice River including Kwakwani, inquiring about when they would be paid.

Three armed bandits held the RDC 10 security guard at gunpoint and robbed the office of about $5M cash and cheques valued $3M. Three persons have been charged for the offence: two RDC employees and the REO’s son.
