Lightbourne withdraws ‘Labouritefi dead’ statement

(Jamaica Observer) Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne, yesterday withdrew a statement she made about People’s National Party (PNP) attorney KD Knight at the Dudus/Manatt Commission of Enquiry on Thursday.

Lightbourne had told the enquiry that Knight had told her that “all labourite fi dead” following the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) landslide victory at the polls in 1980.

“I wish to withdraw the remark,” said Lightbourne yesterday.

Knight accepted Lightbourne’s position although he had demanded an apology and has since bolstered his personal security.

“I will not allow this to derail the enquiry. This is bigger than Dorothy Lightbourne. This is bigger than KD Knight. This is the people’s business,” said Knight.
