Bread prices raised at Bakewell, Humphrey’s retailers

The price of bread has increased at retailers for Bakewell and Humphrey’s Bakery.

The $20 increase has been in effect since Monday. Prices have remained the same at retailers for Banks DIH’s and the Pearl’s and Graham’s bakeries.

Last week, Bakewell indicated that it would have to increase prices for its bread. The company’s Chief Execu-tive Officer Naeem Nasir stated that Bakewell had to increase their prices, while adding that some bakeries had increased their bread prices with the flour price increase last October while its prices have remained stable since September 2008. “Our bread prices will be increased in the near future and ads announcing these increases will be placed in the press,” he said in a letter to the Government Information Agency (GINA) and released to the daily newspapers.

Bread is being sold at Bakewell’s main outlet for $260 (sandwich loaf-sliced) and $240 (plait bread), whereas the retailers’ prices are $280 and $260, respectively.

At Humphrey’s main outlet prices vary according to size; $275 (large plait), $215 (pan loaf), $175(small plait), $115 (small slice). Like Bakewell, these loaves are sold for $20 more at the retail outlets.
