IGG trials may now be staged at Police Sports Club Ground

The Inter-Guiana Games trials hosted by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) which is scheduled for Sunday at Enmore Community Centre Ground (ECCG) may  be moved to the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary due to the flooded conditions of the ECCG caused by the current heavy rainfall.

There was a bit of skepticism with the movement of the trials by the AAG’s president, Colin Boyce, in a telephone interview with Stabroek Sport  yesterday.

Boyce said “last Sunday the ground was waterlogged,” but he was waiting on a feedback from Coach Martin about the ground.

“We are hoping the weather continues like this so we could run off the games and finish off the selection of the Carifta team. Between now and tomorrow we should finalize the ground because Eve Leary is supposed to have softball competition,” he said. Coach John Martin of the Enmore Track Club who would use the ground to train his athletes told Stabroek Sport via telephone:“Well since last Sunday and Monday the ground was flooded from about 10 feet away from the cricket pitch but I haven’t visited the ground since but will check it out this afternoon.”

When asked by Stabroek Sport  if the ground will be ready once the sun persists, he said, “the thing is the ground isn’t cut and I don’t think it could run on Enmore but I will talk to the people in charge to see if it could be cut but the decision lies with Mr. Boyce and the AAG.”

The Inter-Guiana Games trials will be used to select the Guyana team to participate in the Tri-Nation event between Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname which was scheduled for May but which has since been pushed back to June.
