‘Suspicious’ man outside AFC MP’s office identified as Chronicle photographer

The Government Information Agency (GINA) said yesterday that it has issued an official media pass to the David Williams, who has been accused by the AFC of suspicious movements outside of the office of parliamentarian David Patterson.

Williams is accredited as freelance photographer attached to the Guyana Chronicle newspaper, GINA said in a statement.

The agency said it has noted the condemnation of Williams’ attempt to execute his mandated duties, while adding that like any other journalist or photographer he has the freedom and right “to carry out those duties, insofar as they do not exceed the ambits of the accreditation.”
The Alliance for Change (AFC) identified Williams as one of two persons who were caught taking unauthorised photographs of Patterson’s office at Durban Backlands on Tuesday.

The party said it recognised Williams as the ringleader of the paid group of protestors who were on two occasions assembled outside its office in Campbellville. “He was apparently appareled with media pass,” the party observed.

AFC also said Williams was also present at its Action Plan and Campaign launch at the Ocean View Convention Centre on January 29. “Because of the threat the AFC poses to the present oppressive political regime, it is understood why this alarmed cabal would be attempting to gather intelligence on the AFC,” the party added.

Williams has also been identified by media operatives as one of the protestors outside of AFC’s Camp-bellville office and he has appeared on tape voicing his disapproval of the party’s policies.
