No reminder needed, Mr. President!

“If someone points a gun at you….you must shoot to kill” President Jagdeo told police officers at the opening of their Annual Conference recently.  You have to wonder whether our policemen – given their track record – really needed the President’s reminder on the ‘deadly force’ policy.  Indeed, there are those who might argue that he really needs to be nudging our police force in the direction of acting with sound judgment and restraint, not to the extent of putting their lives at risk, but certainly in terms of curbing what has become their reputation for trigger-happiness.

Interestingly, President Jagdeo dropped a broad hint that the entire police force may very well not be singing from the same hymn sheet as far as fighting crime is concerned.  “……….We could have cleaned up that situation in Buxton earlier but (for a) few people, including from the Police Force, right up the top, who had a different agenda,” is what the President told the Officers’ Conference. Senior police officers with “a different agenda?” Tell us more, Mr. President! And pray tell, Mr. President, what are they still doing on our Police Force?
