Sophia mechanic dies after struck by bus

A 56-year-old mechanic died while being treated at a private hospital on Monday, hours after he was struck in the back by a minibus.

Rabindranauth, also known as Robin or Robbie, Goorasammy of 393 `B’ Field, Sophia passed away during surgery some time around 3 pm on Monday, his wife, Bibi Goorasammy, said. According to a police release, Goorasammmy was standing on the roadway at Barr Street, Kitty when he was struck down by the driver of GKK 6698.

However Bibi Goorasammy said that she was made to understand that her husband was at his work place in Barr Street. “He was going into the car trunk. There was a parked minibus behind.

As he went into the trunk somebody turn on the bus and it hit he in he back,” she said. Goorasammy was rushed to the hospital by a sister who lives in the area, his wife said.

Goorasammy leaves to mourn his wife of 28 years, and two adult children.

According to his wife he was “a very blessed husband”. To his in-laws, Goorasammy was described as “a very wonderful, quiet person” who was “very generous and very peaceful”.

The driver of the vehicle meanwhile has been detained by the Police and is assisting with investigations.
