Two charged over $4M mercury

Two men were today placed on $250,000 bail each after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The allegation against Richard Shew and Aaron Gardner is that on April 2, at University Gardens, Cummings Lodge, with the intent to commit fraud, they obtained four flasks of mercury from Rawle Edwards, valued at $4,000,000, property of Alphonso and Sons.

The two accused, the court heard, had stated to Edwards that they were sent by one Andron Alphonso. The matter was transferred to the Spaarendam Magistrates’ Court for April 11.
