36 CH&PA workers get CIDA certificates for training course

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) presented certificates to 36 public servants who participated in an intense training session aimed at boosting their capacity on the job.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the CIDA-funded programme was done in partnership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH & PA).

Thirty-six persons from a group of 86 participants from the CH&PA completed the training which focused on eight areas inclusive of: Effective Presentations, Conflict Management, Stakeholder and Community Engagement, Com-munity Planning, Local Government, Community Design, Project Management and Geographic Information System (GIS).

International Project Manager Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) Michel Frojmovic said the project was a significant undertaking as it was designed in a way that did not require persons to be enrolled in a university or leave the office for a period of time. He noted that the eight courses are equivalent to university courses in a semester.

In addition, Strategic Planner, Canada-Guyana Partnership for Community Planning Jose Cenjura said the agency is working to expand the project to a regional level so that more persons can benefit.

Participant James Victor said he was grateful for the training as it had not only enhanced his life personally but professionally and he was able to implement what he learnt in his work environment.

In December 2010, a mid-term evaluation was done and recipients were utilizing their skills. A full training evaluation is expected to be done on from Monday to April 21.
