Corbin to discuss Norway funds at World Bank meeting

Opposition Leader Robert Corbin is in Washington, DC, attending the World Bank/IMF Spring meetings where he is expected to discuss the arrangements in place for monitoring the expenditure of money received as a result of the Guyana/Norway MoU on Avoided Deforestation.

Corbin is also expected to meet with World Bank Representative for Guyana, Giorgio Valentini, Communications Advisor dealing with the Norway/ Guyana MoU, Sergio Jellinek and other directors on the issue, the PNCR said in a press release.

The Opposition Leader is attending the meetings in his capacity as a Board Member of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank (PNoWB). He was elected to the Board at an AGM held in Brussels, Belgium in December 2010. Corbin will also participate in the quarterly Board Meeting of the PNoWB today. The meetings started yesterday and will run until Saturday.

According to the release, scheduled presentations include those from World Bank Africa Region, Vice President Obi Ezekwesili and World Bank Managing Director Mulyani Indrawati. Issues of main focus include “IMF Crisis Response and Policy changes Going Forward” and “Global Economic Outlook based on recovery and beyond,” it added.

While in Washington, DC, Corbin is also expected to meet with Guyanese and party supporters. He will also attend a meeting hosted by the Washington, DC Chapter of the PNCR on Saturday and travel back to Guyana on Wednesday.
In Corbin’s absence Bishwaishwar “Cammie” Ramsaroop will perform the duties of Party Leader.
