Suspect in Canada shooting death held in Guyana

Canadian online publication The Spec is reporting that a second suspect in the shooting death of Hamilton, Canada teen Brandon Musgrave was held in Guyana and flown back to Canada where he is expected to appear in court on Saturday.

The Spec said that on Wednesday, Joshua Warner, 22, was handed over to Hamilton police detectives in Guyana. It said that under their escort, he was flown back to Canada today and will appear in court on Saturday to face charges. The police force here has not released any information on this case.

“There are no words to express how relieved we are,” said Musgrave’s mother Janet. “You just feel like there is a weight lifted off your shoulders.”

Musgrave, 18, was shot to death at a house party in March 2010, after an apparent dispute over what music was playing.

Hamilton police said Warner was initially arrested by police here on April 8. In cooperation with several international law agencies, including Interpol and the Venezuelan State Police, local homicide detectives had been attempting to track Warner through South America and the Caribbean for more than a year, The Spec said.

Police believe Warner fled Hamilton for Venezuela shortly after the March 13 shooting. He is to face a second-degree murder charge.
