Bermuda lose fifth place playoff against Uganda

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Relegated Bermuda lost their ICC World Cricket League Division 2 fifth-place playoff against Uganda, when they were beaten by the African side by six wickets yesterday.

It was the second time Bermuda lost to Uganda, and both have been relegated to Division 3.

The match had nothing at stake except pride, but for the fifth time in a week, Bermuda, whose only victory during the tournament came against Hong Kong, failed to bat out their 50 overs

Having failed to chase down a total in four attempts this week, Bermuda set a modest victory target after winning the toss and batting first.

Bermuda made a lively start with Dion Stovell scoring 33, and continuing his good work at the top of the order.

Bermuda captain David Hemp led the way with 44 and Fiqre Crockwell also chipped in with 32, but the innings petered out to 193 with 12 balls remaining.

Uganda’s bowlers shared the wickets around, with Daniel Ruyange, Charles Waiswa, Davis Arinaitwe  and Deusdedit Muhumuza claiming two apiece.

Bermuda made early inroads into the Ugandan top-order, with Roger Mukasa edging Stefan Kelly behind from the first ball of the innings.

At 33 for three, the African side were in trouble, but a stand of 96 between Arthur Kyobe, whose 65 was the top score, and Benjamin Musoke, who was unbeaten on 62, rescued the innings.

Kyobe’s departure at 128 for four proved little hindrance and Musoke and Frank Nsubuga with 38 not out saw their side home with 22 balls to spare.

Kyle Hodsoll, who shared the new ball with Kelly, took two for 49 from eight overs.

Scores: BERMUDA 193 off 48 overs (David Hemp 44, Dion Stovell 33, Fiqre Crockwell 32; Daniel Ruyange 2-35, Davis Arinaitwe 2-38, Charles Waiswa 2-46, Deusdedit Muhumuza 2-46)

UGANDA 194 for four off 46.2 overs (Arthur Kyobe 65, Benjamin Musoke 62 not out, Frank Nsubuga 38 not out; Kyle Hodsoll 2-49)
