Canal woman burnt after stove flares up

A 36-year-old woman is now hospitalized after she was burnt on Monday last at her Canal #2, West Demerara home.

Krishna Gobindai, at the Georgetown Public Hospital, yesterday related what had transpired on the day of the mishap. The Guysuco estate worker told this publication that around 7:30 pm, his wife, Bibi Shameeza Ali, was preparing dinner when the stove “flared up” on her.

He further stated that his 13-year-old daughter raised an alarm and as he ran downstairs, he saw the child frantically trying to help her mother. “Afterwards I call a taxi guy and we rush she down to Diamond hospital because they more efficient and my wife is a diabetic too,” the man said “Her sugar level was so high that they tell me she coulda slip into a coma,” he added.

Later that night, Gobindai said, his wife was transported to the GPHC, where she is currently receiving treatment. “She is doing okay,” he stated.

The woman is said to have sustained first degree burns to both legs, her arms, stomach and chest. Her lips were scorched too, the man said.
