Man accused of attempting to murder 12-year-old over being called gay

A man who allegedly attempted to murder a 12-year-old boy who had reportedly called him gay was remanded to prison by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her yesterday.

Bevon Holder was not required to plead to the charge of attempted murder in the New Amsterdam Court, which stemmed from an April 11 incident.

Police said that the boy and the defendant were attending a wedding at Number Two Village. While in company of friends, the virtual complainant reportedly referred to Holder as being gay.

The defendant reportedly became annoyed and being armed with a knife he allegedly inflicted injuries to the pre-teen who remains hospitalized.

The unrepresented Holder is expected to return to Court on May 11 for bail review.
