April 27 adjournment granted for written submissions in Sharma witness tampering matter

Written submissions were not laid over to the court on Wednesday as expected in the matter against Ravi Mangar and Mark Reid for which they have been arraigned on witness tampering charges.

Attorney-at-law Mark Waldron who is representing Reid was absent when the matter was called since he was before a judge in the High Court and as a result was unable to attend.

Lawyer Vic Puran who is representing the other defendant had made oral submissions on the previous occasion.

Both lawyers were, however, supposed to have laid over their written submissions to the court on Wednesday.

When the matter was called on April 14, Waldron had agreed to have his submissions laid over on Wednesday.

Magistrate Geeta Chandan Persid-Edmond who is presiding over the matter at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court then granted an April 27 adjournment for the submissions to be laid over by the attorneys.

The prosecution closed its case in the matter on Thursday last as the preliminary inquiry came to an end.

The matter against the two accused stems from the alleged carnal knowledge of two females for which Chandra Narine Sharma has been charged.

On April 26, Sharma was charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice. It is alleged that on April 15, he knowingly attempted to obstruct the course of justice by removing two of the girls at the centre of sex abuse allegations against him from their known address and taking them to a house at 123 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara in order to prevent them from being questioned by police.
