Mr Fenty’s column did not disclose that he had been hired to produce ad for Air Services

Dear Editor,

Allan Fenty, the Stabroek News columnist of “Frankly Speaking”, needs to distinguish between Fenty the columnist and the Fenty hired by Guyenterprise to produce an advertisement on behalf of a client, Air Services Ltd.

Mr. Fenty was hired by Guyenterprise to produce an advertisement published in the Sunday Stabroek of 17th April, which makes a number of entirely false, unfounded and irresponsible allegations against the operations of Ogle Airport. Mr. Fenty did what he was hired to do.

However, Mr. Fenty the columnist, in his column “Frankly Speaking” published in Stabroek News on 22nd April, uses his column to repeat some of the inaccuracies and allegations he wrote in producing the advertisement on behalf of Air Services Ltd., but does not disclose in his column that he had been hired on behalf of Air Services Ltd.

To make matters worse, Mr. Fenty, the columnist, now functioning as a journalist, made no attempt whatsoever to interview the management of Ogle Airport Inc. to ascertain the facts on which he presumes to editorialize, therefore, acting irresponsibly.

I am also a little surprised at the editorial judgment of Stabroek News in allowing their columnist to editorialize in this manner, having been perfectly aware of the content of the Air Services Ltd. advertisement previously published in the Stabroek News and being aware that Mr. Fenty was hired by Guyenterprise to produce this advertisement.

Yours faithfully,
Kit Nascimento
Public Relations Consultant
Ogle Airport Inc.

Editor’s note: Stabroek News was unaware that Mr Fenty had been hired by Guyenterprise to produce the advertorial on Air Services Limited.
