Memorandum signed for Inter-Guiana Cultural festival

Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana will in August take part in an Inter-Guiana Cultural Festival.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the inaugural event, scheduled for August 26-28, will be held in the context of Inter-Guiana Cooperation “as exemplified by the Inter-Guiana Games…”

Director of Culture Dr James Rose and Special Projects Officer Lennox Canterbury represented Guyana at a meeting in Paramaribo, Suriname last weekend at which the three countries signed a memorandum of understanding to hold the games.

According to the release, the mini-Carifesta event will feature six disciplines: visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, fashion culinary arts and craftwork.

Lectures, matser classes and workshops will also be held.

The release said ministers of culture of French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana will meet in Paramaribo next month to sign a joint declaration during the launch of the OAS year of culture.
