Accused in Bartica miner fatal chopping remanded

The man accused of murdering miner Jerry Primo, 51, at the Mazaruni River area, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against William Jacobs is that on May 7, at Mazaruni River, he murdered Primo.

The accused was not required to enter a plea to the capital charge.

The prosecution is contending that the two had an argument, which saw the accused arming himself with a cutlass and dealing Primo chops to his body.

The injured Primo was subsequently rushed to the Bartica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Jacobs was remanded to prison until May 19 and the case was transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court.
