NOC escapees still at large

The four teenage boys who escaped from the New Opportunity Corp (NOC) on the Essequibo coast remained at large yesterday and police are said to be following several leads in order to recapture them.

A police source in the area told this newspaper yesterday that the four boys, whose ages are said to be 15 years and 16 years, remained on the run while several tips followed by the police did not pay off. The four young men were serving time at the Onderneeming facility for committing larceny offences.

According to a police, one of the teens lived at the Charity Housing Scheme, while addresses were given for two others as Sideline Dam, Annandale and Enmore North on the East Coast of Demerara. The authorities have made several appeals to relatives of the young men to have them returned the correctional facility.

Reports are that the four escaped from the grounds of the facility sometime on Monday.

According to reports, supervisors at the institution were carrying out checks on Monday night at the NOC, sometime after 8pm, when it was discovered that the quartet was missing.

Reports are that the young men were tasked with cleaning the compound of the NOC and may have slipped out of the institution during the daytime.

An alarm was subsequently raised and search efforts were launched.
