Senior nurses donate blood

Director of Nursing Services at the Georgetown Public Hospital Audrey Corry led a group of senior nurses in donating blood at the National Blood Transfusion Services on Monday.

In a press release, the Hospital said Corry, or Matron Corry, as she is also known, was the first in the group of nurses to undertake the exercise.

The initiative was organised by one of the junior departmental supervisors at the Maternity Unit and is expected to be until month end. May month was selected to honour and highlight the role of nurses in Guyana.

Corry, who has been in the nursing profession for over 35 years is encouraging all eligible donor-nurses to donate blood as it will be used to preserve patients’ lives. She said donating not only benefits the recipients but it renews the cells of the donors and has several other beneficial factors as well. The Hospital said Corry has held the post of director for six years.
