We should be careful about cutting the mangroves and Courida at Charity

Dear Editor,

We in Charity have to be very careful about the cutting of the mangrove and courida trees so as to facilitate wharves. This clearance will cause great damage to the river dam by way of erosion, thus causing losses to businesses and the residents of Charity and its environs. We have suffered from several floods in the past. It’s time that a thorough evaluation was done so as to prevent a disaster from happening again.

The road which leads to the marketing centre has also been taken over by huge stalls, which pose several disadvantages to legitimate businesses.

If an emergency were to happen, for example a fire, then what I say would be appreciated, since I have been sounding this warning for several years. A special place was allocated by the NDC for vending but vendors took it on themselves to erect permanent structures. A visit by the Minister of Works would do us some good, since his last visit last year bore some fruit.

Yours faithfully,
Andrieko Basir
