Armed robbery accused remanded

A man arraigned on two counts of armed robbery was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Roy King, known as ‘Roy Singh,’ is that on August 3, at Georgetown, being armed with a knife, he robbed Ragnauth Singh of $80,000, a drivers’ licence and motor vehicle documents. On the same day also, being armed with a knife, King allegedly robbed Kavita Rooplall of a cell phone, valued $23,000 and a quantity of jewellery.

The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charges of robbery under arms when they were read to him.

No facts of transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.

The prosecution made a successful application for the accused to be remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to court One for October 18.
