$700,000 armed robbery accused remanded

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a man accused of arming himself with a piece of broken bottle and robbing a man of gold jewellery valued $700,000.

Terrence Willis was accused of robbing Peter Martin of one gold band and a gold chain, when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of robbery under arms.

The court heard that virtual complainant (VC) was walking near the John Fernandes Wharf when Willis, in the company of two others, allegedly armed himself with a piece of broken bottle and accosted and robbed him. Willis was apprehended by public-spirited persons but the other two accused made good their escape.

Willis was ordered to appear in court on November 11.
