‘Politics is a dirty game’

Dear Editor,

Many promises were made willy-nilly by the presidential candidates. However, people can say whatever they want; speech is free. Then there are the writers of bitter mail who find great satisfaction in lambasting the President who had lambasted them.

A few people will believe that reducing taxes, reducing VAT, raising the salaries of workers and even tinkering with education are great ideas. Those who made these promises must tell the people, all of us, where the money will come from to sustain higher salaries when the revenue base will be reduced.

Every country has its slums and depressed areas, its poor people. Can we name a country without them? There is a level of corruption in the country; there are significant developments that have taken place. Can we deny this?

Today, we all are witnessing the old adage that politics is a dirty game. On the campaign trail we are seeing what is being scattered: hate, anger, bitterness, lies, promises, disloyalty, and other negatives. When all is said and done, we the common people love our country and do not wish it to be crushed by the politics of hate and enmity.

Yours faithfully,
