Police prosecutor charged with uttering forged document

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted a police prosecutor $100,000 bail when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with uttering and presenting a forged document.

It is alleged that on November 9, Andrew Griffith, a 39-year-old father of two, presented himself at the Immigration Office at the Ogle International Airport to board a flight to Suriname. He uttered to the Processing Officer a Termination of Service document in favour of himself and alleged that it had been signed by the Commissioner of Police.

The officer became suspicious and informed his superior, who indicated the defendant is still a serving member of the Guyana Police Force.

He was granted $50,000 bail on each of the two charges.
