$75,000 bail for man accused of stealing camera

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted a 32-year-old man accused of larceny $75,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty when he appeared on Tuesday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on November 11, at Georgetown, Travis George, a gardener of 956 Fourth Field Cane Grove, East Bank Demerara, stole one Sony digital camera, the property of Devon Subtle. The camera is valued $74,200. George denied the charge.

The court heard that on the said day, the virtual complainant (VC) was at the Grove bus park and had his camera in his pouch. He felt someone tugging him and turned and allegedly saw the defendant. The defendant tried to escape but the VC gave chase and alerted a police patrol in the area. The police conducted a search in the area but the camera has not been recovered.
George was ordered to appear in court on November 21.
