Carib/Pepsi Twenty20 Big Smash Super Eight

A six-wicket haul from left-arm wrist spinner Totaram Bishun guided Gizmos and Gadgets Georgetown Pitbulls to a 79-run victory over Noble House Young Conquerors in the rescheduled penultimate Super Eight match of the 2011 Carib/Pepsi Twenty20 Competition at the Everest Cricket Club yesterday.

Scores: Gizmos and Gadgets Pitbulls 143/7 from 20 overs (Dion Ferrier 35, Wasim Haslim 32, Troy Gonzales 20, Joshua Wade 2/20 and Shawn Perriera 2/17) defeated Noble House Young Conquerors 64 all out in 10 overs. (Totaram Bishun 6 for 16) by 79 runs.

Proceedings on the day began an hour late at 11:00 due to early morning showers, following which Young Conquerors won the toss and sent the opposing side to bat in slightly damp conditions.

The Steven Jacobs-led side got off briskly with openers Trevon Griffith and Rajendra Chandrika taking them to 24 without loss in the third over before off-spinner Jamal La Fleur had Griffith (16) caught at the wicket.

The dismissals of Shemroy Barrington (1) and Chandrika (13) who both fell to Berbice Under-19 captain and leg-spinner Shawn Perreira, leaving the Pitbulls on 40/3 in the 10th over.

However some valiant late order hitting from Dion Ferrier 35 (15 balls, 3×6, 1×4, Wasim Haslim 32 (17 balls, 3×6 and Troy Gonsalves, 20, (13 balls, 1×6) aided the Pitbulls in scoring an impressive 103 in the final overs en route to finishing on 143.

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) first division pacer Joshua Wade and Perreira had the best bowling figures for the Conquerors, claiming 2/20 and 2/17 respectively.

In pursuit of their challenging target, the Young Conquerors team was never in the hunt, losing wickets at regular intervals, with only Robin Bacchus (14), Travis Blyden (15 not out) and tail-ender Andre Stoll (11) managing to reach double figures.

Opener Robin Bacchus was the first to perish lofting off-spinner Jacobs to Griffith at long-on in the second over with the score on 17. In the next over he had La Fleur (5) stumped by wicket-keeper Joseph Perry.

From this point it became the “Bishun show” as the wrist spinner ripped through the remainder of the Conquerors batting line-up to guide his side into Friday’s semi-finals where they will take on Mario’s Pizza West Berbice Super Kings.

The other semi-final will see Church’s Chicken Corentyne Titans opposing the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President’s XI. Both of these games will be played at the Albion Community Center Ground.
