GCB awaiting response from WICB

Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie said yesterday that the GCB was awaiting a  response from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) with respect to what steps to take next regarding the running of  cricket in Guyana.

The GCB has been written to by minister responsible for sport Dr. Frank Anthony requesting that it ceases to operate or hold itself out to be agents of the GCB and to hand over all the relevant documents to Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Alfred King.

“Pursuant to the letter and spirit of the said Order of Court, I hereby inform you that as an immediate interim remedial action, I have decided to install an Interim Management Committee which shall assume the administration of cricket nationally in lieu and in place  of the Guyana Cricket Board, as the Government continues to explore a more permanent  solution to this administrative and legal dilemma,” Dr. Anthony wrote.

The letter went on to state:”In the circumstances, I kindly request that you forthwith cease to act as, or on behalf, or hold yourself out to be a representative or an agent or an officer of the Guyana Cricket Board and that you immediately deliver to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Mr Alfred King all or any properties, account, record (s) or books owned by, or  which touch and concern, or are connected with the business of the Guyana Cricket Board.”

The GCB secretary noted that the WICB had been written to on the latest developments in Guyana, but said that they were waiting on the reply.

“We have had no response from the WICB as yet, but as mentioned before our legal team (Sanjeev Datadin , Roysdale Forde and Fenton Ramsahoye) has sent all documents to their legal people outling all relevant concerns and we expect to get a response from them soon, how soon though I cannot say at this time.”

Guyana is scheduled to participate in the upcoming regional T20 tournament early next year and it is unclear how this latest development will impact the  team’s participation.

At the moment the players have taken a break for the Xmas holidays and are scheduled to recommence preparations on January 3 ahead of the 2012 Caribbean Twenty20 tournament scheduled to bowl off from January 10-23 in Barbados and Antigua.
