US Seabees volunteer at Red Cross Convalescent Home

Children at the Guyana Red Cross Society Convalescent Home in D’Urban Backlands benefited from a Boxing Day visit by the United States Navy construction battalions the Seabees.

According to a release from the United States embassy, the Seabees completed eight hours of volunteer work at the Red Cross facility. The American navy men repaired and painted the nursery cribs at the home, stained several wood floor sections throughout the orphanage, repaired the main gutters and undertook plumbing and electrical work among other tasks while at the facility.

The Navy Medics, called Corpsmen, were able to examine the children at the home and they also certified the medical supplies at the orphanage. They also shared toys, books and conversations with the children at the orphanage, the release said.
