Man stabbed after pursuing accused robber – court hears

A man who saw his property being stolen, chased after the suspect and was later stabbed by him, the court of acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard yesterday.

It is alleged that on January 31 at Georgetown, Dexter Lynch unlawfully and maliciously wounded Floyd Duport, stole one tape-deck valued $50,000 from Rawle Tucker and damaged one car window worth $6,000, property of the said Rawle Tucker.

In presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor told the court that Duport saw the defendant in the act of stealing the tape-deck and attempted to confront him but the man escaped on a bicycle. Duport followed on his motorcycle and subsequently he was stabbed by the accused.

He was assisted by public-spirited citizens to the hospital and the defendant was arrested.

The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the accused has no fixed place of abode. Lynch, however, said he resides in Charlestown.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry refused the man bail and transferred the matter to Court Three for February 7.
