Cabinet clears contracts for GECOM vehicles, Lethem road

Cabinet this week signalled its ‘no objection’ to five contracts, including one which will see $43,407,000 being spent to acquire eight vehicles for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon on Friday disclosed that the money will be used to purchase four cars and four four-wheel drive vehicles.  These vehicles, Luncheon said, would be necessary to support the Commission and its work towards the delivery of the 2011 General and Regional elections.

Meanwhile, Luncheon also announced that Cabinet offered its no objection to the contract valued $132.8 million for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Lethem to Aishalton road. Cabinet also gave the go ahead for the use of US$77,000 to be used to procure laboratory equipment for the National Public Health Reference Labora-tory. Cabinet also gave its no objection to the award of a $28,300,000 contract for the provision of disposal laboratory supplies for the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).

Cabinet also gave its ‘no objection’ to an award of £35,672 for service connections and service connections materials in the housing sector, Luncheon disclosed.
