Beaten miner died of blunt trauma

Miner Earle Austin, who was tied to a tree and beaten to death at 14 Miles, Issano on Monday, died as a result of multiple blunt traumas, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Stabroek News was told that during the examination yesterday, government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh found that Austin, 37, of the Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, sustained between four and six hits to the head. A suspect remains in custody as police continue their search for two more.

Austin will be buried on Sunday.

Austin had been accused by three men of stealing a brush cutter. They said that he was tied to a tree with rope on Monday morning and severely beaten by the men, who were all armed with guns.

Austin’s relatives said that based on their information, the man died still tied to the tree.
