Man wanted over Hogstye’s farmer’s death surrenders

One of the primary suspects in the Hogstye, Corentyne backdam shooting, which left a farmer dead and his younger brother seriously injured, has turned himself over to the police.

The man, of Alness, Corentyne, was accompanied to the Whim Police Station by his lawyer, Marcel Crawford, yesterday.

On Wednesday afternoon, Shawn Fraser, 38, was shot in the head and chest in the attack, while his brother, Odwin Bindah, 34, was shot in the abdomen and in the back while fleeing their attackers. He was eventually admitted at the New Amster-dam Hospital (NAH), where emergency surgery was performed to remove some of the pellets. He is still a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the NAH. His condition was said to be improving.

Stabroek News learnt that the suspect, called ‘John,’ and his son, ‘Romel,’ and a friend, ‘Bobo,’ allegedly carried out the attack on Fraser, of Hogstye. Reports are that ‘Romel’ was among eight persons who were arrested following after the shooting. The other main suspect, ‘Bobo,’ is still at large. The attack reportedly occurred over a grievance over a plot of land.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination has found that Fraser died from shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries.

His brother, Leary Fraser, told this newspaper that the men shot Shawn at close range, before turning the weapon on Bindah. Odwin’s wife, Samantha Bindah said she was relieved when she visited him yesterday and he managed to sit up. She also said that he “looked bright and he told
