New masjid at Parfait Harmonie

Muslims who reside at Parfait Harmonie now have their own place of  worship, Masjid Al-Nur and Islamic Centre which was built by businessman Bobby Ramroop.

According to the Government Information Agency, the masjid  was opened last Friday  with President Bharrat Jagdeo  in attendance.

The president expressed pleasure that the scheme has seen the addition of a wonderful building which will not only serve as a place of worship, but also as one of service to the residents of the West Bank of Demerara. Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana’s education director and religious advisor Shaikh Moen-ul Hack, said that the masjid will also be used for recreational activities for youths, in the quest to keep the youth from indulging in deviant behaviour.

The building was funded by Ramroop at a cost of $70M, in fulfilling his mother’s wish to honour her deceased parents. It was handed over to the CIOG a few days before Ramadan.
