Miss Jamzone International kicks off tonight

The first leg of the Miss Jamzone International Pageant is going to be a good competition, says CEO of Hits and Jams Kerwin Bollers.

This leg of the competition involves the evening wear, swimsuit and culture segments. The other part of the competition will take place on Sunday at the Splashmins Resort. Bollers told a news conference yesterday at Princess Hotel that they are expecting a large turnout at the event.

The competition is scheduled to take place at 8 o’clock tonight at the National Cultural Centre. Miss St Kitts and Nevis, Fatisha Imo urged the public not to miss the beginning of the ceremony and hinted that they were going to commemorate International Year of People of African Descent.

All 11 delegates along with the reigning Miss Jamzone International Lesa-Gayle Tom were present at yesterday’s briefing. For many of the girls, it was their first time in Guyana and they all said they were enjoying their stay.  All of them noted their love for the food as well as the hospitality that the Guyanese people have shown.

Marcia Baptiste, the first ever delegate from Dominica, said that she is thoroughly enjoying her stay in Guyana. She said they all get along very well, and added jokingly that there were no “catfights” yet. Guyana’s Jovan Wilson said that “Pageants celebrate and integrate us” and added that Guyana should feel proud to host such an event.

Meanwhile, the reigning Miss Jamzone International, who is from Jamaica, said that she is happy to be back in Guyana and called it her home away from home. Her advice to this year’s delegates was “Have fun and take away the experience.”

Vying for the crown and US$10,000 alongside Wilson are contestants Fatisha Imo-Miss St. Kitts & Nevis; Rhea Cummings-Miss Barbados; Davia Chambers-Miss Trinidad and Tobago; Trishauna Clarke-Miss Jamaica; Stacey Norine Ceder-Miss Suriname; Marcia Baptiste-Miss Dominica; Latisha Greene-Miss Antigua and Barbuda; Deandra Doyley-Miss Jamaica; Patrish Lionel-Miss St Lucia; Kenlly Aranguren-Miss Venezuela; and Ellen Lima- Miss Brazil

All the delegates have promised a great competition with an explosion of intelligence, talent and beauty.
