Man placed on bail over provoking minor

A 38-year-old East Ruimveldt man who allegedly used threatening language to a boy was yesterday placed on $10,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on September 29 at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Fazil Samad provoked the minor with intent to annoy.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

No facts were presented to the court by the prosecution on what had transpired on the day in question.

The child’s grandmother who spoke on his behalf told the court: “Every time this man drink he rum he don’t go to no other neighbour but us… at one time he told my grandson that he gonna perform anal sex with him.” She said further that, “On this occasion he said that my grandson pelt him, however when I went outside of my house I saw [Samad] pelting my grandson.”

When given a chance to speak the defendant said: “If this woman grandchildren do anything and you complain to her she gives you no satisfaction.”

After listening to both parties the magistrate told the accused that he was being placed on bail and the matter was adjourned until October 27 at Court One.
