Motorcyclist dies after struck by car

A 38-year-old motorcyclist lost his life when a left-hand drive Nissan Maxima motorcar, PNN 7187 crashed into him at Onderneeming, West Coast
Berbice around 7.30 am yesterday.

Joseph Jacque of New Amsterdam and formerly of Ithaca, West Berbice died on the spot. He suffered serious injuries to his head and leg.

Reports are that the car which was approaching in the opposite direction was trying to overtake another vehicle when tragedy struck.

He was flung off the bike, CF 5339, and the car came to a halt several feet away.

His wife, Jonelle Jacque told the Sunday Stabroek that he left home around 7 am for the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales at Chester Village where he worked as a machinist. The woman who celebrated her birthday yesterday said she was receiving birthday greetings on the phone when she got a call that he had been killed in an accident.

Jonelle, a teacher at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School said too that her husband left home in good spirits and that he was looking forward to going out with her later.

She said when she got to the scene his body was still lying on the road waiting to be taken to the mortuary.

The woman who was still in shock over her husband’s death told this newspaper yesterday that she wanted “answers… He was in his lane.” He also leaves to mourn an eight-year-old son, Jalen.
