Man charged over Lusignan cyclist’s death

Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus yesterday granted a taxi driver, who allegedly fatally struck Lusignan cyclist Mark Seebarran, bail in the sum of $250,000.

Melroy Jeffrey, 36, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court yesterday arraigned for causing death by dangerous driving.

It is alleged that on January 2 at the Lusignan Public Road, ECD Jeffrey caused the death of Seebarran while driving his vehicle in a dangerous manner.

The matter has been adjourned to February 3.

In a press release issued on Sunday police said that they were investigating the fatal accident which resulted in the death of Seebarran. Investigations, police had reported, revealed that Jeffrey, the driver of motor car HB 7825, was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that Seebarran who was towing Melissa Robinson, 22, rode out from an access road unto the main road and was struck down by the motor vehicle.
