The finals of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)-hosted 2010 New Building Society (NBS) Limited 40-Over Second Division cricket competition is set for Sunday at the Cumberland Cricket Ground, Berbice.
The finals bowls off at 11 am and will see Young Warriors going up against Tamran Root of Hampshire. It promises to be a thrilling and close match with both teams having strong all-round players on paper.
Young Warriors with several experienced players in their squad is the likely favourites at home, but wont be underestimating Tamran Root who have upset several top teams on their way to the finals. Veterans Anil Beharry and Hubern Evans are spearheading a strong Young Warriors batting line up with support from teenage batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer, Khemraj Harris, Ishwar Singh, Linden Austin, hard- hitting Rudolph Baker and the talented Simon Lawson.
Hetmyer at the young age of thirteen years has impressed the cricketing public of Berbice and is touted as the next outstanding batsman from the ancient county. Pacers Kawal Mangal and Amir Rahaman are expected to share the new ball for the home team with support from medium pacer Baker, off spinners Evans, Shazad Khan, Linden Austin and left arm spinner Beharry.
Tamran Root will be led by exciting middle order batsman Mahendra Ramdihal, who will be supported by Hemendra Ramdihal, Alvin Ramdass, Mohamed Altaf, Lionel Seegobin and Kevin Madramootoo.
Ramdass and the Ramdihal brothers are very capable of tearing apart any bowling attack and could pose problems for the home team.
The visitors’ bowling attack would be led by pacers Satesh Dwarka and Mahendra Ramdihal with support from spinners Dilip Rangasammy, Kevin Madramootoo, Alvin Ramdass and Hemendra Ramdihal.
The winning team would receive $60,000 and a trophy, the runner up $30,000 and a trophy and the Man of the Finals $5,000 and a trophy.
Officials of NBS and the BCB will be meeting the teams before the match and sharing out the prizes afterwards.
All eight who reached the quarterfinals of the tournament will each receive a pair of batting pads as part of the BCB development programme.
