Kenya sack World Cup captain Kamande over poor showing

NAIROBI, (Reuters) – Jimmy Kamande has been sacked as Kenya’s captain after their dismal performance at the recent World Cup.

Kamande took over as captain in Oct. 2010 but the team lost all of their six matches in the tournament held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh during February and March.

“Cricket Kenya has taken the decision to stand down Jimmy Kamande as captain as part of the widespread changes we are making during our post World Cup review,” Cricket Kenya chief executive Tom Sears said in a statement.

“Given that the national squad do not have any fixtures until July, when they feature in the African Cricket Association Twenty 20 tournament and we are in the process of recruiting a new national coach and appointing a new selection panel, we will not be announcing a replacement at this stage,” he said.
