Bermine Memorex cricket club will be seeking a replay in their match against Albion Community Centre following their clash in the 2011 Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division limited overs knockout competition in Berbice last Saturday.
Albion Community Centre defeated Bermine Memorex to earn a bye to the semi-final while Skeldon Community Centre got the better of Police to advance to the second round.
However Bermine Memorex stated that they played the match under protest and has since lodged a protest with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) over an incident involving one of the umpires and Narsingh Deonarine.
Bermine Memorex is claiming that after Deonarine was given out LBW by the umpire when he was on 51, he (Deonarine) raised his bat in the direction of the umpire, apparently indicating that the ball had touched his bat.
The umpire then rescinded his decision which resulted in Deonarine going on to make an even 100 and Albion 244 for 8.
Memorex Bermine is seeking a replay.
In the match played at Albion, Albion Community Centre won by 53 runs. Albion Community Centre losing the toss and sent in to take first strike lost former West Indies opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon stumped for six off former Guyana Under-19 off spinner Stephen Latcha with the score on 25.
Deonarine came in at number three and proceeded to hold the innings together.
He first put on 32 for the second wicket with former Guyana Under-19 batsman, Harrinarine Chattergoon (21), and then was involved in a third wicket stand of 44 with Ramnarine Chattergoon (27).
After that, he was involved in partnerships of 35 for the fourth wicket with Guyana 20/20 batsman Jonathan Foo (16), 64 for the fifth wicket with Guyana Under-19 batsman Kandasammy Surujnarine (31) and 21 for the seventh wicket with West Indies leg spinner Devendra Bishoo (1) before he was eventually caught off Berbice cricketer Devon Clements, bowling off spin for an even 100 which included five fours and three sixes as Albion posted a challenging 244 for 8 in their 50-overs.
Bowling for Bermine Memorex, Devon Clements took 2 for 36 from eight overs and Stephen Latcha 2 for 40 from 10 overs. Shemroy Barrington, playing his first first division match in Berbice grabbed 2 for 44 from 10 overs.
When Bermine Memorex started their reply, they lost former Guyana Under-15 opening batsman Romario De Jonge Shepherd in the third over for 0 with only nine runs on the board, but after that Barrington and Berbice all-rounder Eugene La Fleur put on 35 in the next eight overs before La Fleur fell to Veerasammy Permaul for six.
Barrington soon followed, also off Permaul for 40 (5 fours), leaving Bermine Memorex shakily placed on 55 for 3 in the 15th Over. D’Andrade brought Bermine Memorex back into the game by putting on 67 with Clements in 17 overs before Clements fell to off spinner Deonarine for 46. D’ Andrade and yet another former Guyana Under-19 batsman Rawlston Tappin then added 55 runs to take the score to 177 for 4, leaving Bermine Memorex needing 68 runs from 42 balls.
However Permaul put paid to any hopes when he took 3 quick wickets – Tappin for 21, D’Andrade for 47 and Keion De Jesus for 0 to leave them 179 for 7. After a slight resistance, Bishoo then cleaned up the last three wickets in the 46th over to leave Bermine Memorex 191 all out in 45.6 overs. Bowling for Albion, Permaul took 5 for 19 from eight overs and Bishoo 3 for 37.
Meanwhile, over at the Skeldon Ground, Skeldon Community Centre beat Police “B” Division by 44 runs.
Skeldon Community Centre won the toss and batted first in the match which was reduced to 40-overs-a-side due to preparation moisture on the pitch.
They made 134 in 33 overs with national one-day wicket keeper batsman Anthony Bramble hitting 56 (six fours) and Wazir Hussain 22.
The Police pacers did the damage with Michael Newland taking 3 for 12 from seven overs, former Guyana Under-19 cricketer Kellon Henry 3 for 25 from 6.2 overs and Rawle Scott 2 for 30 from six overs.
Police, in reply, were in turn bowled out for 90 in 28 overs with Newland top scoring with 15. Bowling for Skeldon Community Centre, left-arm spinners Wazir Hussain and Mark Lionel picked up 3 for 23 from eight overs and 2 for 10 from seven overs respectively while medium pacer Gajendra Nauth had 2 for 16 from four overs.
Skeldon Community Centre and Port Mourant Karibee Rice are scheduled to clash in their second match tomorrow at the Port Mourant Ground at 09.30 hours.
