CANTERBURY, England, CMC – Jimmy Adams has been appointed the new head coach of the Kent County Cricket Club.
Club officials unveiled the former Jamaica and West Indies captain as their new head strategist on Tuesday following an extensive recruitment and selection process.
“I am delighted to be given this opportunity as head coach at Kent Cricket,” said Adams. “They are a county with a proud history and tradition.
“I look forward to working towards further success in the year to come and can’t wait to get started.”
Graham Johnson, chairman of Kent Cricket, said the club was delighted to have had such a strong field of candidates for the role.
“I believe we have run an extremely thorough process to select our new head coach and are delighted that Jimmy will take up the position,” he said.
“[Jimmy] has a strong desire to see young players develop and this shone through in our discussions with him.
“He also has a tremendous amount of experience from his time in international cricket – particularly as captain. We welcome Jimmy to Kent and wish him the very best of luck.”
Adams played 54 Test matches and 127 One-day Internationals for West Indies during a nine-year international career, which culminated with his appointment as captain.
Since his retirement from the game eight years ago, Adams has held positions within the game in his native Jamaica, where he was technical director, and in the West Indies, coaching the Under-19 side.
He is also the current president of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association, a position he has held for the last four year. Adams takes up the post in early February.
