Doobay murder accused dies in hospital

A man, who had been charged with killing Sheranie Doobay, wife of Head of Internal Medicine at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), Dr Ramsundar Doobay, at their Echilibar Villas home, died in hospital.

Mark Singh, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Wednesday and his cause of death is still unclear.

When this newspaper visited the man’s relatives in Goedverwagting, ECD, they refused to comment and instead, expressed discontent at other media reports that Singh had died of a severe asthma attack.

“We don’t want to talk to anybody. You are not welcomed here… I don’t know whoever said he died of asthma.

He never suffer from asthma but let whatever in the paper stay like that,” one girl said before turning back into the house.

The murder was committed on May 24, 2011 at the Doobays’ Campbellville home. Singh and Shakir Mohamed were jointly charged with the murder of the 58-year-old woman.

Her battered body was discovered in her kitchen lying in a pool of blood. She had been struck repeatedly in the head with a blunt instrument.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the woman’s body by pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that she died as a result of eight wounds inflicted on her head.

When contacted on Thursday evening, Dr Doobay told this publication, “justice is in the hands of God and it comes to everyone”.
