Pensioner, 77, dies after trucks collide

A septuagenarian on Thursday became Linden’s first traffic fatality for 2012; attributed to poor judgment on the part of deceased and speeding on the part of the other party involved.

Dead is 77-year-old Graydon Massiah of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The incident occurred on Thursday morning along Sir David Rose Avenue in the vicinity of the Rose Gas Station. Massiah, who was driving a Toyota pickup – GDD 1428 – had just left the gas station and apparently did not notice the black Tundra GJJ 2686, which was driven by Lindon Solomon. The two vehicles collided.

“I ain’t know how old boy ain’t see that Tundra coming man. Dis is a highway and you does got to be so careful around here. It was clearly a call of misjudgment and speeding, both of them were wrong,” said an eyewitness.

The eyewitness said he was walking along the road and saw the accident unfold before his eyes. He explained that the Tundra was heading to Amelia’s Ward while the pick-up was about to cross the lane to proceed in the direction of Central Mackenzie.

Workers at the gas station said Massiah had purchased gas but they did not know about the crash until someone alerted them a few minutes after. While the driver of the Tundra escaped with a few bruises, Massiah was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex in a semiconscious state. A small crowd swelled quickly and aided in pulling Massiah from the wreckage and taking him to the hospital.

“Nobody expected that man to die. It got to be that he pressure went up or heart failure or something because he look ok and as if he just had to get hospitalized for a few morning because he is a big man,” said a close relative.

Family members were shocked when the received news some time after 9 pm that Massiah had died. The incident occurred shortly after 10 am.

At the scene, according to reports, Solomon was in a state of shock. He was quickly whisked away to the Mackenzie Police Station where he remained in custody up to press time assisting with investigations.

Only the drivers were in the vehicles at the time of the accident.
