The Alliance For Change is concerned about the way the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the treason charge against Bruce Munroe, Carol Munroe and Leonard Wharton is being handled and supports the protest action against the incarceration of the accused.
The party said in a statement that it is urging the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to review the evidence led so far and what was to come in the future to determine the likelihood of a successful conviction and “do the right thing in the interest of justice”.
The party said it is also concerned about the numerous delays in the PI and expects that the DPP will ensure there are no more delays in the hearing and that it is not reduced to a charade.
The statement added that following the mishandling of the Benschop treason trial and his prolonged and wrongful incarceration, the three political prisoners can very well find themselves languishing in prison for many years to come.
