The Director of Public Prosecu-tions (DPP) yesterday advised the police to conduct an inquest into shooting to death of 11-year-old Justin Nobrega, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said.

Persaud said police received the advice some time yesterday afternoon. He said police have since released the two men including the child’s father, who were held in connection with the incident, on station bail.

Reports are that the South Ruimveldt Secondary School student, his father and at least one other person were on a hunting trip last Friday night at Adventure Soesdyke/Linden Highway when things went horrible wrong.

From all appearances, the group managed to wound a deer that attempted to get away and a chase ensued. The child’s father instructed him to remain in the vehicle. He, however, ventured out and sustained two wounds to the back and side when the hunters fired at the animal.

He was rushed to the hospital in Linden where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police had said in a press release that from initial reports the child was accidentally shot.
