Junior students at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) Mabaruma Sub-region recently presented a number of literacy and numeracy aids to the children’s ward at the Mabaruma hospital
According to a Government Information Agency press release, the gift included a television set, DVD player, DVD Mathematics Literacy and Numeracy elements, books and wall components. The donation was part of the students’ community project.
The items were presented to hospital administrator Mr Meusai.
Education Officer Bissondial Deoram commended the initiative to create an environment for the children to feel comfortable and to continue their learning while they are hospitalised.
She said the ministry focuses on creating child-friendly environments and this vision is to be implemented in schools and other institutions where children are housed.
The education officer also then urged the staff to manage the equipment well to ensure its longevity and to encourage the children to make full use of it.
