Fordyce: Softball in Region Ten to be more structured

Softball in Region Ten will become more structured with the recent formation of the Upper Demerara Softball Cricket Association (UDSCA) and now an affiliate member of the Guyana Softball League (GSL).

The body will be headed by Phillip Fordyce and part of his mandate is to improve the standing of the game in the mining town.

The formation of the club is also the realization of the GSL’s vision for the sport to become more structured throughout the country.

Fordyce thanked members for electing him and  pledged  to work hard to ensure progress is made during his tenure. He also noted that transparency and integrity will be hallmarks of his presidency and he will be encouraging the entire region to register with the body.

Fordyce hopes that all will be involved in the process of “building the sport and the communities.”

According to a release, he congratulated the members who make up the executive and assured everyone that full cooperation will be received from them. He reminded his executives that “integrity plays a great role in success” and challenged the organization to ensure that “softball cricket is played at all levels.”

Further, the executive was reminded that all the positions are important to the functioning of the body. They were implored to put softball cricket first since this is what they will be judged on.

They were also urged to ensure that all statutes are upheld in accordance with the constitution of the GSL.

The body was also informed of the progress for the current tournaments, including the GT&T 10/10 and urged to ensure that all goals are met for this premier tournament.

Queries were also answered by the president and secretary pertaining to many formats of tournaments under the GSL.

Teams and clubs are asked to register with the organization in order to have a smoother running of softball cricket in the region.

On the other hand, the officers pledged to do their utmost at all times and assured all of a new era of softball cricket in the region.

Meanwhile, the GSL will be moving on to Regions Eight  and Two, the only regions that do not have associations.
