Suriname father kills self, three children

(de Ware Tijd) SARAMACCA – People reacted with shock and disbelief to a drama that took place in Saramacca Friday evening. “How will that mother go on?” many bystanders asked. Relatives and witnesses say that Soerinderkoemar Nibar (28), his wife and three children went out that evening. He had drunk a lot and had a fight with his wife, and he allegedly continued fighting with his wife on the way home in the car. Nibar suddenly ordered his wife to get out of the car and took over the wheel. Meanwhile, Nibar’s wife has arrived home and did not see her family there. She then reported them missing to police. Shortly thereafter Nibar and his car were seen at the Uitkijk bridge. He drove his car, with the children still in it, straight into the Saramacca River, and all drowned. The car and three of the bodies were found the next morning, Saturday, while the last one, that of six-year-old son Tuchal Nibar was found early yesterday evening.
