IMC sending documents to ICC early next week

The event that was chaired by Keith Booker saw approximately 30 persons in the audience made up of a few notable cricket names and normal citizens who have concerns about the situation. Lloyd was joined by Roger Harper at the head table, while the other IMC members did not show up.

Lloyd, in his opening remarks, said he was pleased to be a part of the refurbishment of Guyana’s cricket and reiterated to the public that the IMC was not here to take over local cricket, but aid the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in having a single constitution.

The IMC is also mandated to deal with the allegations of financial impropriety; the implementation of a broad-based Cricket Development Programme and the drafting of a piece of legislation to submit to parliament, which will make the GCB a “Legal Entity”.

Throughout the afternoon exchanges by patrons in the crowd, Lloyd was very frank and in a very jovial manner answered the questions openly.

When this newspaper asked Lloyd to follow up on an issue from the last IMC press conference two weeks ago in which Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony and Attorney General Anil Nandlall said the government has sent out its document to the International Cricket Council (ICC) stating its position, ever since they condemned what’s going on in Guyana – Lloyd highlighted this was still in the process.

“We have not sent out this to the ICC as yet, but I can give you an update in that I spoke to ICC president Haroon Lorgat just a few days ago about the situation and I made mention of their document (a November 11 2011, ICC document which was sent out by the ICC to all its member boards by Head of Legal and Company Secretary, David Becker titled “Regulations relating to Independence of Member Boards”), which in a lot of ways vindicates what we have done here. He agreed that some discrepancy is present and early next week, we will be sending a full proposal explaining our side of the story to them,” explained Lloyd

Lloyd colloquially known as “Super Cat” in some cricket quarters, said that he has found some useful things in the constitutions of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) that he has found useful in the potentially formulation of that illusive one constitution that the IMC is seeking to derive at for the GCB, that all stakeholders will be satisfied with.

Finally when asked with regards the investigation of the GCB financial documents, if the IMC would heed to the GCB’s request to come to their office and accept photo-copies of any of the documents they required, Lloyd stated after the ICC responds to them, then they will decide what next step to take regarding that investigation.

The IMC is scheduled to have its second set of meetings today with the public at the Uitvlugt Community Center starting from 10:00hrs and Providence Stadium from 15:00hrs.

This will continue throughout the month on February 15, 2012, at 13:00hrs at the Anna Regina Regional Office, February 16, 2012, at 16:00hrs at the Lusignan Community Centre, February 17, 2012, at 11:00hrs, February 18, 2012, at 12:00hrs (venues to be named) and finally on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 12:00hrs at the Berbice High School.
